Poor Air and Mold In Your HVAC: Are Your Customers Affected?

“We go to work every day and see close to 10 to 15 clients throughout the day.  How many customers are affected by the air inside my office building?”  One business owner from Holbrook, NY. The simple answer IAC Professionals gave: “All of them.  If you have mold in your HVAC system, it is passed around through the air. All your customers are affected.”

As a restorer, it is important to understand your customers.  IAC Pros focuses on educating their customers and address all their needs during each visit.  This helps them better understand and care for the sensitizing of mold themselves.

Scientific Data vs Anecdotal

For a decade, people have used mold illness as an excuse to sue companies for making them sick.  Throughout the early stages of these lawsuits, the courts would usually lean towards the defendants.  They would claim there is not enough evidence that proves mold will make someone sick. Even with the courts ruling the lack of evidence, all the anecdotal data that was kept from thousands of contractors who have worked with occupants of water-damage in the building have documented all the challenges that a person’s health will face.

During the 1980s, there was a huge issue with people getting sick and the World Health Organization named it as the “Sick Building Syndrome.”  A survivor and mold expert, Erik Johnson named the cause for the “Sick Building Syndrome” in the 1990s. He stated that is could be caused by the toxins produced by mold.

In 2016, the medical community started to acknowledge how water-damaged buildings have an impact on your health.  This acknowledgment did not come about until after a release of a documentary which featured people who have been having physical and mental health issues after they moved into a house full of mold.  This even included several professionals. Back in November of 2015, the CEO of Wonder Makers Environmental, Michael Pinto, addressed around 13 trends of the future in the Restoration industry.

Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (CIRS)

Dr. Ritchie Shoemaker explained CIRS as, “An acute and chronic, systemic inflammatory response syndrome acquired following exposure to the interior environment of a water-damaged building with resident toxigenic organisms, including, but not limited to fungi, bacteria, beta glucans, hemolysins, proteinases, mannans, c-type lectins and possibly spirocyclic drimanes, plus volatile organic compounds.”

There was a physician who recorded health symptoms of over 227 patients living with water-damage in their home or building.  This was over a period of three-years.

The question is CIRS something that is life-threating? Your customers are exposed to mold illness it starts to attack the immune system and weakens it making it hard to fight illness and disease.  It might be life-threating or only cause chronic sinusitis or asthma.
