Long Island Air Duct and HVAC Cleaning

Make HVAC Cleaning A Priority For Your Business

Are you wondering why you should you have your HVAC cleaned?  It’s pretty simple, the longer you wait the more dirt and mold build up throughout the unit and ducts.  It may not seem like much, but with time they accumulate into large particles of harmful bacteria that can harm your customers and staff.

Better Indoor Air Quality = Better Business

The quality of your indoor air is so important for maintaining your business.  When managers and owners call IAC-Indoor Air Care for HVAC and Air Duct Inspection, typically it’s because they suspect poor indoor air quality.  Poor indoor air quality is caused by contaminants and air pollutants, like dust, chemicals, and moisture, accumulating throughout the building.  Unfortunately, there isn’t much anyone can do about this when there are a lot of people coming in and out of the building daily and with weather changes Long Island deals with.  The problem comes from lack of inspection and maintenance, because as the indoor air quality becomes poorer and poorer, the built up contaminants circulate throughout the building up to 10 times per day!  Overtime this causes severe issues with customer and employee health, work performance, and cost of energy bills.

Clean HVAC System = Lower $ Bills

It’s not a surprise cleaner HVAC systems mean less expenses when it comes to monthly energy bills.  As contaminants accumulate inside the HVAC unit and air ducts, the overall performance of the HVAC becomes severely effected.  According to the U.S. Department of Energy, 25 to 40 percent of the energy used for heating or cooling is wasted.

The built up contaminants cause the system to work harder and shortens the life-span.  Filters work to some degree, but eventually it takes professional HVAC cleaning and air duct cleaning to get the system running at the best level of performance in terms of air quality and costs, because less energy is being used to run.

The Effect of Mold Inside Your HVAC and Air Ducts

Look out!  Mold is everywhere.  It does not matter where you look. If there is moisture, there can be mold.  Your HVAC system has several places that mold can make a home in such as the AC evaporator coils, ducts, and the drip pans.  Each of these areas will cause moisture. These areas are dangerous if they are not checked for mold. It can cause infestation to spread throughout the house or office.

Mold is a fungus that searches for moist areas to make a home.  It is airborne outside and inside, and is always looking for a new home!  Once it finds a place that’s humid and contains moisture, the mold lands and begins to spread.  This creates dust particles of mold and causes several health problems with everyone who breathes in the dust.

If you care about your health, you should care about it there is mold inside your home or office.  There is not much you can do about the mold outside, it is natural. However, it can cause a world of hidden health problems.

What Are Some Ways to Spot the Growth of Mold?

Being educated about mold is very important.  It will save you a lot of health problems in the future.

Always look for visual signs:  The easiest way to find mold is by looking for dirt, dust, and mold growth around your air ducts and HVAC unit.  It does not matter if the mold is in your drip pans, evaporator coils, or ductwork.   Keep in mind, if the house or office is typically moist, it would be good to increase your inspection for mold and do weekly cleanings.

Smell for Mold:  Your nose is a great defense in mold prevention.  There will be areas that you cannot see in the ducts or drip pan.  Smelling for moisture and mold growth will help during your inspections.  Mold will give strong mildew like smell. Here is a little test. Turn off your system for about 10 to 20 minutes and smell the air.  Did the smell go away or get weaker with the system? Now turn the system back on. What happened to the smell? If it gets stronger with the system on and weaker with the system off, you probably have mold inside the system somewhere.

A Professional Can Be Sure:  Most cases, mold growing inside the air ducts and HVAC takes a professional company like IAC-Indoor Air Care Professionals to perform a thorough cleaning and remediation.  Call 631-451-7500 and get help now.

Mold in the Ducts…What Do You Do?

Throughout the years, the HVAC system has evolved. It has become better in time. We now have many different types of units based on the needs of the occupants. The one thing that has always remained the same is mold. This is a huge problem in the ducts. It loves moist places.  The ducts provide many of those places. They can also provide a challenge to clean.  When it is hot outside and the cold air passes through the ducts, it forms condensation. This condensation provides a nice moist home. Imagine what happens over months of not being
checked.

One of those DYI-types?  Here’s a quick guide to how to clean your air ducts and HVAC:

You can go and buy an EDA registered mold removal or you can try one of the two alternatives that work just as well if not better.

Solution one: Create your own solution by mixing one tablespoon of your household detergent, ½ tablespoon of baking soda, and one cup of water.

Solution two: Bleach is a wonderful cleaning tool. Take one-part bleach to 16 parts water.  Then use it to clean the non-prone substances.

Always remember, have a mask, safety goggles, and a pair of overalls to protect your body.  This will help protect you from the chemicals and the mold.  The next step is to clean your system and ducts. Make sure you scrub the ducts with a brush or wet rag. Do not forget to turn off your HVAC system before you begin to clean. Always dispose of the used rags or brushes in a trash bag that is airtight. Finally, finish up with an inhibitor. This will help to prevent mold from coming back.

The process sounds like it takes a lot of time. It does! However, it is worth the time and money to ensure your health is not affected by mold in the ducts. The key to a healthy life is the air quality indoors.

There are a few things you can do to safeguard your home from this deadly intruder. Take the time to ask a professional air duct cleaning company like IAC to do a mold test on a regular basis. While the professional is there have them help you get to know about your HVAC system. Knowledge is Power! Find out everything you can about your system such as the primary material that is used on the ducts. You will also want to know a good cleaning method and perform routine cleaning. Along with these routine cleanings, there should also be a routine inspection of your HVAC system. Just because there was no mold a month ago, does not mean you are safe this month. What if the weather changed and caused some added moisture?  Keeping your air fresh can be a challenge. Mold is everyone and it is not going away.

Instead, learn to clean it and control it. Read our latest blog posts and learn different ways to keep your air fresh and the moisture down. Most of all, learn where the moisture collects the most and inspect those areas more often.

Why HVAC Cleaning and Air Duct Cleaning is necessary for any Long Island commercial office building…

Learn Why Air Duct Cleaning and HVAC Cleaning Is Needed For Every Residential and Commercial Building

The National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) teaches homeowners and commercial building owners that “if your air ducts look dirty, they probably are!”  When dirt, dust, and mold grows inside HVAC systems, they need to inspected and cleaned right away by a reputable, certified HVAC professional.

The quality of your indoor air is a major concern for homeowners and business owners in need of a healthy, clean environment.  The HVAC unit is a key component of a healthy air flow and it requires regular maintenance and cleaning.

Indoor Air Care

It’s common for contaminants and air pollutants, such as dander, dust, and chemicals, mold and others to grow inside the ducts and HVAC system. These contaminants enter the airflow and on average they get shared around the home or office almost 10 times a day.  As days and weeks go by, this dirt, dust, and mold make it necessary for a professional air duct cleaning and HVAC cleaning throughout the entire residential and commercial property.

While dirty ducts don’t necessarily mean unhealthy air in your home, school or workplace, they may be contributing to larger health issues or harboring contaminants that could cause serious problems for people with respiratory health conditions, autoimmune disorders or some environmental allergies.

The Costs For Dirty Ducts

Dirty ducts effect the home and office in many ways.  Those living or working inside the building are constantly breathing this dirty air and will eventually face health issues like allergies, cold symptoms, and more serious reactions.  Having dirty air ducts and HVAC units also increase your expenses on energy and can even cause system failures!

This are just two of many reasons why commercial HVAC cleaning is necessary for any office.  Take a look at IAC-Indoor Air Care Professional’s services and call us at 631-451-7500 to get your free estimate on your next air duct cleaning, HVAC cleaning, and mold removal services.

Commercial HVAC Cleaning and Air Duct Cleaning

Commercial HVAC cleaning and air duct cleaning technicians encounter many different problems commercial building owners face with regards to dirt, dust, and mold growth inside their buildings.  The certified technicians at IAC-Indoor Air Care Professionals use a wide range of tools and techniques to clean commercial HVAC units, ducts, and the air-flow.

Commercial Crawl-Through Duct Cleaning

If the duct work is big enough for one of our technicians to crawl through, a physical crawl-through duct clean will be done. Typically this is the most thorough and effective method of commercial duct cleaning available, because every area of dirt, dust, and mold can be seen and cleaned. During a crawl-through duct cleaning, a IAC-Indoor Air Care’s technician will wear Tyvek suit and a respirator, HEPA-filter vacuum with 100 feet of 1 7/8-inch hose and either a 3- or 14-inch dust-brush head. He physically gets into the duct through the access panel and moves throughout the HVAC system. After the HVAC cleaning, he thoroughly patches the access panel with sheet metal that’s in compliance with the NADCA (National Air Duct Cleaners Association) standards.

Using Air Whips, Rotating Brushes, and High-Pressured Air Triggers

If the duct work can’t be cleaned with a physical crawl-through method, then our IAC-Indoor Air Care technicians will use air whips, rotating brushes, and high-pressured air triggers to clean any commercial HVAC and air duct.

Air whips are tools that have six 14-inch long tentacles that move around inside the duct work in all directions. This loosens any dirt, debris, or mold, and alternatively pushes the debris and dirt towards the vacuum to fully remove.

The rotating brushes are spinning brush heads at the end of a long cable, brushing away the dirt, debris, and mold and cleaning effectively.  They are great tools for interior duct work because the brushes can be adjusted by commercial building or residential properties.

High-Pressured air triggers like vacuums or reheat coils are powerful tools IAC-Indoor Air Care Professionals uses for commercial and residential duct cleaning.  The high pressure caused by these tools quickly eliminate the dirt, dust, and mold growing inside the air ducts and HVAC unit.
